Gratitude
It’s Thanksgiving Eve, and I feel like the appropriate thing to write about is the idea of gratitude. Even though there are other things that I’d like to address, especially since I haven’t put much else out here, it is the season of giving thanks, so here we go.
You’d think this would be an easy task, as it is something that I actively tried to cultivate this year. I started the year with a gratitude journal, courtesy of the 5 minute journal whose first 3 lines each day were dedicated to this practice. But then I finished my first ever version of this journal and purchased a knock-off on Amazon. And that one didn’t last long.
I also started off this year with a resolution to bank a year of gratitude - each Sunday evening, I would sit down with my thoughts and fill a post-it note with everything I was thankful for that week, and deposit it in a little piggy bank that I planned to revisit at the end of the year. The idea was to look back on a year in wonder, and float into the new year with gratitude brimming over - starting off on the right note, so to speak.
This practice lasted more than half the year, well into July, but then I stopped, deterred by a few weeks of one piece of bad news after another.
And now we are in December, more than 2 weeks since Thanksgiving and since I started this post….such is life.
I guess the message is to just keep on keeping on. Gratitude is great when practiced, but just because it’s not, doesn’t mean it isn’t.
